 Ridi viharaya (The silver temple )

 Easily accessible  on the  kurunagala -kappitiga  road ,in a city called ridigama behind  it is a small  monastery  cave temple  of rudi viharaya.


A legend record that king dutugemunu got silvet from this place to build the ruwanwelimahaseya. According  to mahavansa king Dutugemunu build a temple here and place d a statur of buddha in memory  of his finding of silver.

However  what  one  can find at this place  are buddha statuesandpieces of art as at present belong ing to kandyan era


Late ansnda kumaraswamy statue that the door wiyh ivory carving is extraordinary further  one will find it interesting  to understand  difficult  stagr of life of Jesus  christ on the tiles upon the elevation for offering of flowers 

Haththikuchchi viharaya 

      The remains here are believed  to have belonged to 2nd century B.C  rock inscriptions can be seen belonging to 9th century  B.C. one of these  inscriptions indicates  the oldest  name of the place  as "hatchikuchchi".  In this  premises  there is a figure of an elephant's head after which  the name  was given. 


The premises is 300 acres in extent within  which are architectural structures like the "pohoya geya" the temple of the relics,the circular structure  (watadageya) and ponds plus 38 caves.
According  to the mahavansaya,king sirisagabo is said to have given away his head at this place.
